Inspirational letter

Read this and thought it would be great to share it with all of you. Now I know not all of you have a sellers site on etsy but just replace that with ebay or mommyauctions or what ever site you are on.

Have you got the Etsy Blues? Lots of stock , but no sales?Top Ten List for Beating the Etsy Blues!!(Written by http://www.allieb.etsy.com/ )

10. Hold an empty brown paper bag over your mouth, bend your head back and yell into it as loud as you can. Now twist it fast to catch all your 'hot air' and BOOM...pop it with your fist! Now don't you feel better?

9. Force your family to collect all the tiny bits of lint off their clothes and from the dryer. Make a gigantic lint pumpkin and spray paint it bright orange. Now list it on Etsy. SOMEONE will buy it!

8. Take a walk around your block BACKWARDS while repeating the Etsy Creed, 'Your Place to Buy and Sell All Things Handmade' over and over and over again at the top f your voice. Sure you MIGHT get hauled off to the loony bin but maybe, just maybe, you will get a new customer for your shop!

7. Go to your Etsy shop at least once a day and visit the people who have 'hearted' you in their shops. Once their banner comes up repeat this phrase thrice...."Thank you for loving me and for not putting a value on our Etsy love by …NOT BUYING ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!"

6. Just for fun post a picture of yourself as a new item in your shop! Sell yourself off for a few dollars and see who buys you! And if no one does, than you’ve now got an EXCELLENT excuse to stay depressed!!

5. Hide under the covers with all your craft supplies and ponder on the meaning of life and most importantly on the meaning of.... marketing techniques to drive sales with search engine optimized wording!

4. While someone you love is sleeping, glue sparkles and sequins on their foreheads and dangle a few beads from their toes...when they wake up shout, "Yay, you TOTALLY look like an Etsy project!!!!!!!"

3. Find a new hobby in addition to Etsy...perhaps sword-fighting or wrangling alligators. What a better way to vent out zero sales instead of just sitting at your computer crying about it!

2. Send a note to “Admin’ at least once a week and ask them WHY OH WHY they never feature your shop on the front page but rather focus on mundane and boring seller items like hand-carved wood art or hand-crafted pottery. I mean, REALLY glittery jellybean pants are super HOT items these days!!!!!!!!!And the number one way to beat off the Etsy Blues is...drum roll please...tata...tata...tata....

1. When you wake up each morning, take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and affirm this aloud to yourself, "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and dog-gone it...someone will BUY something from me today!

How it all came to be

This is the story of how I became who I am today. How I learned how to sew. I started sewing the year I turned seven, for christmas I got a small singer sewing machine. One that looked very much like this one but with less bells and whistles. Ohh and mine was white and green.
So anyhow, I got this machine for christmas and was excited and wanted to learn how to use it. My mother was going the chemo treatment for Hodgkins stage three cancer. So she couldnt teach me, I was upset by this but understood. One day she comes to my room and hands me a basket of fabric and tells me my Barbie dolls looked like they could use some new clothes. So I sat there for a while trying to figure out how to start this. After awhile I just traced the dolls on the fabric, cut it out and tried sewing. Well after about of an hour of anguish with the fabric because it kept bunching and the thread because it kept knotting in the bobbin case, I finially did it. I finished a shirt for my dolls. I remember it being absolutely ugly. I was proud and showed my mother, all she said was good job now go make more. upset and mad that she wasnt as happy as I, I went back to my room and made about five more, and realized why she did this. the last one was the best because I then knew what I was doing. So anyhow, after that I didnt need fancy doll clothes from the store, I just made them. I got so into this that by the time I was 8 I was making clothes for my brother's ninja turtles, those shells were rather bothersome. I loved sewing so much that I only stopped when I was a teenager, to busy being cool I guess. Anyhow when I was pregnant with my son I picked it up again and havent stopped. Here are some photos of a few things I made this week.

These two are vintage styled dresses custom fitted and made of Amy Butler fabric.

This one is my version of a wa lolita. It is in black and two shades of red.

I love sewing and think I will never truly get bored with it and if I do I think I would go insane. I get a lot of my inspiration of sewing from my three year old, trying to make things that he likes, and things that will be fun for him.

Help Deconstructress help her friends

PLEASE HELP THIS FAMILY

Help me to support a family who lost their daughter in a car accident
On June 4, 2008, my very good friends, the Lecates family, lost their 15-year-old daughter in a terrible car accident. Eleigh was the most beautiful girl and she had her entire life ahead of her. She was full of promise and her mother's best friend in the world. She was always at her mom's side. The last thing I want my friends to experience now is any financial hardship and I want to auction a dress here on ebay to donate ALL of the sale to them.
100% OF THIS SALE (not just the profits) will be donated to the Lecates family to help offset any funeral costs
I know that most of my customers buy dresses from me during Halloween, but I would LOVE it if you would consider buying a dress from me in honor of Eleigh Lecates. I will do ANY DESIGN YOU WANT! Anything at all. You can look through my portfolio of dresses at www.deconstructressdesigns.com/portfolio.htm and pick any of those or I will work with you to create something entirely your own. I will custom make this dress to your measurements and your requirements. I'm hoping it will be my most beautiful creation yet so that it will truly honor Eleigh. I will finish the gown in 6-8 weeks at the latest (but probably sooner.)
Please help me help my friends. There is nothing more helpless than watching someone you care about lose their daughter. I want to help them out in anyway I can so I really hope that you all will help me to do this.
I am starting this listing at only $20 and really hope it skyrockets. There is no reserve.

In honor of sweet Eleigh Lecates1/25/93 - 6/4/08

eDECONSTRUCTRESS DESIGNS COSTUME ART
Deconstructress Designs are individually crafted works of art. Most are created from deconstructed sample wedding gowns and some are created from scratch. Each individual costume is painstakingly created by hand-painting (never dyed), hand-sewing and individually applied trimmings. Individual gowns take anywhere from eight hours to two-weeks to create. Every detail is considered when creating a costume based on a specific character. Most importantly, each costume is a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art.
While most of my work appears on Ebay during the Halloween season, I am open and working all year. Check out my designs and pick one for me to custom make for you.
Have a costume party to go to or a masquerade ball to attend? Contact me and I'll custom make you any of my designs. Typically the finished dress will be completed and shipped within two weeks. However, some dresses will take less time and others will take more. Just contact me with any questions.
All of the designs available are based on the 2007 Halloween collection. Check my Website for upcoming designs!
Keep an eye out for my upcoming "Pink Ribbon Fairy Gown" which I will donate the majority of the profits to Making Memories in honor of all breast cancer patients.
Please take a look at my designs and pick one you love! I'll custom make this dress for your size and preferences. Once your design preferences are chosen, I'll pick the perfect wedding dress from my stock to create your dress and send you pics of the original dress. I'll then begin the creation of your one-of-a-kind, custom made gown. Most gowns will take 2-3 weeks to ship.
The following preferences can generally be customized for your gown / costume?
The measurements will be customized to fit you
The sleeve preference (i.e., strapless, sleeveless, spaghetti straps, short sleeve, long sleeve)
The length of the skirt (short or long train, floor length only, short in front & long in back, knee length, etc.)
The colors of the dress
The materials of the dress (silk, satin, tulle)
Almost all aspects of the final gown are customizable. Just ask! Want a garden fairy with particular flowers? Done! Want a Vampiress Fairy Gown that is long with a train? You got it! Just contact me before you buy and I'm sure we can come up with the perfect dress for you!
Do you have a wedding gown hanging in your closet that you like re-created into one of my gowns? Just ask me about my "Re-create or Trade My Wedding Gown" program where you can trade your gown for a discount or use your own wedding gown!

My Favorite Fabric store

I know there are a lot of fabric stores out there on line, tons maybe, but if you dont mind I would like to share this site with you. I love this store because of their wide selection of fabric and designers. Selection ranges anywheres from 3 Sisters to Amy Butler, Joel Dewberry to Free Spirit, Marcus Brothers to Tula Pink. Before I forget to mention the name of the site... www.quilthome.com. This store is great, prompt shipping, courteous people, and a great feature. This great feature is called the design cart. If you find a fabric you love, you put it in this tool and as you browse through the other fabric looking for fabrics that compliment this other fabric, browsing through other designers, manufacturers, colors, themes, no matter where you go that fabric stays in that little feature at the front page and you dont have to go back flipping through looking for that one again later to do comparison, it is right there, no changing tabs, putting it to your favorites or anything. In my opinion this feature is great (or I am easily amused) as a quilter and a clothemaker this is a great asset, makes my shopping a lot easier. Quilthome.com's main goal is to become a valueable source for quality quilting supplies, information and inspiration. Now on the downside this site does not offer Michael Miller fabrics. and that is the only qualm I have with this site. But honestly I can get that from another site so that really isnt that big of a problem. Another thing I like about this site is if you spend more than $150, you get free shipping. This is awesome in my opnion becasue I can easily spend tht much money just to make one quilt. Personally I love this site, and havent found a serious flaw with it. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have, if you choose to take a look at it.
